Equi*star Therapeutic Riding Center is a not-for-profit 501 C 3 Corporation whose mission is to enrich the lives of people with disabilities through equine-related activates. Therapeutic riding has been shown in several medical studies to produce multiple benefits to people of various disabilities. Therapeutic riding is recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association. Research shows that students who participate in therapeutic riding can experience physical, emotional and mental rewards.

Equi Star was founded in 1994 by Miriam Smith. Miriam was an avid equestrian for much of her life and while taking human services courses in college she became interested in therapeutic horseback riding. Her vision was to share the thrill of horseback riding with people that would not be able to experience it on their own. She started with one horse, a handful of volunteers and a few riders, in the past ten years we have become a very successful organization with our own facilities and have helped hundreds of people with disabilities benefit from therapeutic horseback riding.

Equi Star is located on 36 peaceful acres just 9 miles north of Lockport, New York. When the weather isn’t cooperating we have a new indoor arena, classes will run rain or shine. The Equi Star professional instructors and trained volunteers provide a safe and nurturing environment for its riders.
